Capitalism Is Working

The banner headline on the latest edition of Socialist Worker, the house organ of Britain’s largest pseudo-socialist sect, highlights their customary threadbare analysis of world events, and their frequent and early resort to semiliterate populist demagoguery.

CAPITALISM ISN’T WORKING

If capitalism is not working, how do the charlatans and opportunists of the Socialist Workers’ Party explain the expropriation of billions — if not trillions — of euros, pounds and dollars of workers’ money (in taxation and savings) to prop up the fat-cats of casino capitalism? They haven’t even bothered to read Marx:

The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionizing the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production, and with them the whole relations of society. [...] Constant revolutionizing of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast frozen relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices and opinions, are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real condition of life and his relations with his kind.

Capitalism has not failed, it is adapting itself, reinventing itself, and working with ever more ruthless efficiency. First capitalists accumulate the product of labour for their own benefit, and now they come back for the little surplus value that is left.
